A recent article published by the WBEZ shows that for-profit nursing homes have had more COVID-19 infections and deaths than nonprofit nursing homes. In the 20 Illinois counties hit hardest by the virus, for-profit homes had nearly double the death rates as nonprofit facilities. One cause for the disparity may be that in for-profit nursing homes, revenue is being diverted to owners rather than being spent on resident care and COVID-19 prevention.
