ABC 7 news recently reported that Chicago’s Inspector General has found that the Chicago Police Department is not following established policies for officers who fire their weapons. Under existing policies, officers who fire their weapons must meet certain requirements before returning to the street, such as completing 30 days of administrative duty, and participating in stress management and other training programs.
However, the inspector general found that officers are returning to regular field duty before meeting the above requirements, which are designed to help officers deal with the trauma of firing their weapons. To read the full article, click here.
